It's his thread.) Number five piece of advice- IMDB Power Search- http://www.imdb.com/list ------------------- ------ I can't make CLICKY LINKS. How do you make them? Goto http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup You can learn it, in a minute or less. (when making clickable URLs, it is best to test them out, before you post. Few things are sadder, than a bad link. Preview your post, and try the link out. If it works, post it. If not, you have a typo.) Jeez, I'm going to forget that URL. How do I find that page again? Click on your name and you can look at your Personal Options. Take a look at "markup enabled" . Now you will always be able to find the URL. Or the EZ method. Click on some posters "reply button" and you will see markup enabled". ------------------- ---------- I've got posters complaining, that I'm reposting my question. How do I do this BUMP thingy? It is very easy, to do. Reply to you own post. You will see a yellow button that says reply. Press it. You will notice a 'subject line' and the 'body'. Write BUMP, in the 'subject line'; everyone will know that you are BUMPing your post. I wouldn't BUMP more than once, every 8 hours. If you keep reposting, you run the risk of being 'ignored'. IMDB wont let me BUMP. I'm confused. Help me, won't you? You need to have something in the body. Type (nm) or whatever, it will work. -----(nm) means "no message" Chances are you have multiple posts, on the I Need to Know Board. You will want to delete them all, except for a single post (the one with the most responses, keep that post!!!). Wikipedia BUMP-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bump_(Internet) ------------------- --------- How do I get more responses? Write a descriptive subject line. Don't write 'help me' or 'please help'. Make it readily understandable, at a glance, If you are looking for a sci-fi movie. Mention "sci-fi movie question", be obvious about it. If your movie has a guy with two heads and a chainsaw, mention it. "Two headed killer with chainsaw, what movie?" Don't ever type- "please read my question". ------------------- --------------- I've gotten responses, all of them have been wrong. Nobody is responding anymore; how come? Posters probably think that your question has been solved. You need to put (UNSOLVED) at the end of your 'subject line'. Make sure that you put (UNSOLVED), in the very first post your made (the question post). Some questions are difficult and will never get answered. Hopefully it won't happen to your question. Goto your orignal post and put the word (SOLVED) at the end, of the 'subject line'. Don't erase your question, that is impolite. Don't worry about your thread cluttering up the board. It will gradualy be pushed to the bottom. Don't use the wrong persons REPLY BUTTON. If you reply to the wrong button, they may be sent an email, from IMDB. Remember to click the proper Reply Button. It causes havoc, with Nesting Threads, when you reply to the wrong button. (experiment with threads and use the 4 types-----thread-fl at-inline-nest-----. You'll catch on, even I got the hang of it.) (SPOILERS) What happened? All I did was ask a question and I was attacked by half of IMDB. They are out for my blood. Posters are screaming, about something called ***SPOILERS***. I didn't want to ruin their movie. It's their fault that they read my question. Actually the posters, are correct. You made a serious blunder. I don't believe that you did it on purpose. I'm thinking that it was due, to ignorance of the ***SPOILER*** rule. Don't argue with the other posters. The cat is out of the bag, and you can't put it back in. The best you can do, is erase your post, and edit your post. Have it say: I'm sorry, about the (SPOILERS). I'm a ! At the very least the other posters, wont see your ***(SPOILERS)***. And the posters will realize that there was no malice, on your part. In the future, do this. I don't want to read his posts or receive his PMs. Is there a way I can wish him away. Yes, wish him away- like into a cornfield? You have a TROLL, the best thing to do is ignore them. If you don't want to see them ever again; click on the "offending posters" name. You will see 3 choices. Ignore Add Send Click on 'Ignore'. One tiny problem; it might be hard to follow a thread, if you can't see, what they are saying. You could be watching one poster talking to himself; but in reality, they are talking to someone- on your ignore list. IMDB has a page about Trolls, I suggest you read it. http://us.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?boardstrolls No you don't understand, this person is not a troll!!!! The poster is posting phone numbers/making death threats/something so obscene, I don't want to repeat it/or other. If this poster is doing something that is illegal or immoral, you should report them. Find the "troubling post" and look for the yellow reply button. (it will be on the far right.) Beside that button, is Report Abuse, click it. You will see many options, picked the one that is applicable. The bottom one says "I need to contact the administration or staff". Use that one, if the post in question, is dangerous or vile.) If you're not sure whether you should report someone; you can ask on the HELP Board. (You don't want to report someone, just because you have a disagreement.) ------------------- ------------ I keep seeing acronyms like lol. What do these acronyms mean? I don't understand them myself; but I know a good "urban web dictionary". Click on http://www.urbandictionary.com/. You should be able to find out the meaning there. ------------------- ------------- Should I get IMDB Pro? From what little I know, you get more access, and it cost about 13 dollars (USA dollars). The big thing is that you don't have, posting quota times. Bad news if your posting times are high, then IMDB will probably kick you off anyway. If you are trolling for fights, don't get IMDB PRO. Life is to short, to fight. If you have noticed your posting times going up, that means you are being penalized. IMDBs next step is probably to delete your posting history. The step after that, they kick you off. (take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm just a poster like yourself.) ------------------- ---------- I hate to check my old posts, to see if anyone has replied. I keep looking, and I'm not getting any bites. I feel like I'm fishing. Will IMDB alert me with EMAILS? Yes IMDB will. Click on your name and go to your personal options. Where it says Notifications; you want to check both boxes. If someone sends you a PM, you will get an email from IMDB. If someone clicks on your "reply button", you will get an email from IMDB. (one small problem, some people are ignorant of the "reply buttons" function. If you use my "reply button" I will get an email. If you use someone elses "reply button", I will not get an email.) ------------------- ----------------- I noticed that some people, have ORANGE STARS- what is up, with that?
