ez guide trying to find a lost friend on IMDB

You best bet is the link below. It has a thousands of posters on it, but IMDB has millions of posters. You do the math. Chances are, they won't be found on the list.

http://actwon.com/imdb/profiles.htm

If you have an old PM. Look at it and you can look up your friend. (After 21 days old PM, self delete.)
No old PM.

Do you know their exact name. And I do mean exact name. If so, try and google their name. Maybe you will get lucky.
That didn't work.

Try going to the Boards that they frequent. Ask some of your fellow posters, if they know the poster.
That didn't work.

Do you have any mutal friends? If so, ask them if they know his name.
That didn't work.

We are out of options, I'm sad to say.

I'm sorry, I can't help you; but I wish you good luck, in your search.

If you ever do find your friend, put him on your friends list. It is a lot easier to locate your friends that way.

I have to say your chances of finding your friend, are about zero.

You might want to ask if the IMDB Help Board, can give you some advice. What they heck, the worst they can tell you is, that he is lost forever.

ez guide should I authenticate by acct?

(Below information, a bit out of date. You now need to verify your acct, before your allowed to post on IMDB. EDIT: 3-15-2007 orange stars will be phased out.)

The stars are now located in your bios. Posters were getting confused with the stars. Many thought that it meant that you were an Admin. The truth is that IMDB, is trying to cut down on trolls and make IMDB more enjoyable. (Works for me!!!!!) (Currently you have to authenicate to post/PM on IMDB. If you are already can post at IMDB, than don't worry. You are already in the system. New posters will have to get the star though.)

I noticed that some people, have ORANGE STARS- what is up, with that?

Click on this star http://imdb.com/user/ur0345531/boards/profile/, and learn about it.

Bascially it is to help, to control spam and trolls.

(NOTE: some posters had stars and others didn't. There was a bit of resentment and paranoia. Now that the stars are located in the bios, the stars are not mentioned that often.)

Watch this informative movie- The Monsters are Due on IMDB (less than 2 minutes). All will be explained http://youtube.com/watch?v=UtYnihTt3hg

(1)I don't believe you, about the stars!!! You 'star people', think that you are so superior. I don't think much of the stars. You are all so smug.

(2)It's an Amazon plot, to get my information. Getting a star, is stupid.

(3) I know that it's a way for Amazon, to track me. I'm not doing it. It is a scam and everyone who has one, is probably going to give their money, to a Nigerian Prince scam.

(4) Random raving, about the star. Trust me, the star is not a bad thing.

It helps out IMDB, just ask on the HELP Board.

If you won't accept a rational answer; how about a illogical one. (choose one response)

(A)The stars are a plot by the Borg collective. This is merely Phase I. You and all you love, will be assimliated. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE- please click on link to be assimilated. http://tinyurl.com/26vmg5

(B) It's true, you found us out. We are busted. IMDB throws beach parties, once every 3 months. The posters with stars, are flown down to the Bahamas (free of charge, everythings is comped, we aren't charged for anything.) Film of "star posters" enjoying the beach. part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln3V0HgW4eM
part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0LgMpfLD1Y

(C) IMDB has merged with MK-ULTRA, and are going to re-pattern trouble makers. It is just best to get the star, and not cause any problems. Or you will programmed, to sing Barry Manilow songs. NO JOKE! Look if you don't believe me. http://youtube.com/watch?v=tsOJsJ601uA

Get the "Orange Star" at http://imdb.com/help/additional_authentication or at least some more information.

If you want to know more about the star (and possibly getting 30 second shaved off your posting quota), ask on the IMDB Help Board. http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/

ez guide IMDB emails

I hate to check my old posts, to see if anyone has replied.

I keep looking, and I'm not getting any bites. I feel like I'm fishing.

Will IMDB alert me with EMAILS?

Yes IMDB will.

Click on your name (or "my profile" link) and go to your personal options.

Where it says Notifications; you want to check both boxes.

If someone sends you a PM, you will get an email from IMDB.

If someone clicks on your "reply button", you will get an email from IMDB. (one small problem, some people are ignorant of the "reply buttons" function.)

If you use my "reply button" I will get an email.

If you use someone elses "reply button", I will not get an email.)

If you need any additional information, please ask on the IMDB Help Board.
(Help Board) http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/

ez guide should I get IMDBpro?

Should I get IMDB Pro?

From what little I know, you get more access, and it cost about 13 dollars (USA dollars), a month.

The good news is that you won't have, posting quota times. That is a major plus, especially if you like to solve movies on the I Need to Know Board.

Bad news, is that you are not giving Diplomatic Immunity. Just because you pay a monthly rate, doesn't give you special rights. You are still going to be spanked by Admins, if you misbehave. You have no special privileges, bestowed upon you.

(You can only get Diplomatic Immunity if you have the backing of a foreign country. Watch this informative video, you will understand Diplomatic Immunity. lol http://youtube.com/watch?v=CFFZxSy7bmo )

If you are trolling for fights, don't get IMDB PRO. Life is to short, to fight. If you have noticed your posting times going up, that means you are being penalized. IMDBs next step is probably to delete your posting history. The step after that, they kick you off. (Take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm just a poster, like yourself.)

For more information about IMDBpro, please ask about it on the IMDB Help Board.
(Help Board) http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/

ez guide I need a dictionary.

I keep seeing acronyms like lol and LMAO.

What do these acronyms mean?

I don't understand all of them myself; but I know a good "urban web dictionary".

Click on http://www.urbandictionary.com/. You should be able to find out the meaning there. If that site doesn't have it, try this one. http://www.noslang.com/dictionary.php

Many posters are from the UK. What does ________ mean? I have neither heard of _______. Try this- http://english2american.com/index.html#index

ez guide ignore the Trolls (except)

I am sick and tired, of reading "some poster". I don't want to argue with him. I don't want to read his posts or receive his PMs. Is there a way I can wish him away.

Yes, wish him away- like into a cornfield?

The answer is YES!!!!!!

You have a TROLL, the best thing to do is ignore them.

If you don't want to see them ever again; click on the "offending posters" name.

You will see 3 choices. Ignore-- Add-- Send-- Click on 'Ignore'.

One tiny problem; it might be hard to follow a thread, if you can't see, what they are saying. You could be watching one poster talking to himself; but in reality, they are talking to someone- on your ignore list.

What IMDB has to say about Ignore:
Add the user to your ignore list, which makes any post or private message from this user invisible to you. (In other words they can read your posts, but you cannot see theirs. Sooner of later the Troll gets tired and leaves you alone. Remember the number one rule about Trolls, don't feed them.)

IMDB has a page about Trolls, I suggest you read it. http://us.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?boardstrolls

No you don't understand, this person is not a troll!!!! The poster is posting phone numbers/making death threats/something so obscene, I don't want to repeat it/or other.

If this poster is doing something that is illegal or immoral, you should report them. Find the "troubling post" and look for the yellow reply button. (it will be on the far right.) Beside that button, is Report Abuse, click it. You will see many options, picked the one that is applicable. The bottom one says "I need to contact the administration or staff". Use that one, if the post in question, is dangerous or vile.)

If you're not sure whether you should report someone; you can ask on the HELP Board.
(Help Board is staffed by volunteer posters. They are not Admin. They are helpful posters, who will try and give you assistance. Click on this link to goto the Help Board http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/)

(You don't want to report someone, just because you have a disagreement.)

The Help Desk, not to be confused with the Help Board. http://us.imdb.com/%20helpdesk/contact

ez guide SPOILERS

(SPOILERS) What happened? All I did was ask a question and I was attacked by half of IMDB. They are out for my blood. Posters are screaming, about something called ***SPOILERS***. I didn't want to ruin their movie. It's their fault that they read my question.

Actually the posters, are correct. You made a serious blunder. I don't believe that you did it on purpose. I'm thinking that it was due, to ignorance of the ***SPOILER*** rule.

Don't argue with the other posters. The cat is out of the bag, and you can't put it back in. The best you can do, is erase your post, and edit your post. Have it say: I'm sorry, about the (SPOILERS). I'm a NEWBIE!

At the very least the other posters, wont see your ***(SPOILERS)***. And the posters will realize that there was no malice, on your part.

In the future, do this.

In the Wizard of Oz, did Dorothy return home, by clicking her 'ruby slippers'? -----

The Answer- Glinda: You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas. Dorothy: I have? Scarecrow: Then why didn't you tell her before? Glinda: Because she wouldn't have believed me. She had to learn it for herself.

The more current the movie/show, it's more likely to need SPOILERS.

The actual ending of the Wizard of Oz. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6exm2Hi28Xw

The truth about Dorothy. She has a mouth on her, that is the equal of Sarah Silverman. lol

ez guide reply button

Don't use the wrong posters REPLY BUTTON.

If you reply to the wrong button, they may be sent an email, from IMDB. (Yes, IMDB will send you an email, if you set your account to do so. How to get IMDB to send you emails http://tinyurl.com/2xc8rp)

Remember to click the proper Reply Button. It causes havoc, with Nesting Threads, when you reply to the wrong button. (experiment with threads and use the 4 types-----thread-flat-inline-nest-----. You'll catch on, even I got the hang of it.)

If you want to reply to JohnDoe31, then find his post and hit his reply button. It will be located on his post. Don't use the bottom posters reply button. Unless you wanted to reply to the bottom poster.

Flat will have the oldest posts at the top and will be in descending order.

Nest will have the post in an easier method, to see who is replying to who. You reply to JohnDoe31 and your post will be right below JohnDoe31 post. If 4 posters are chatting with him, your post will be the 5th post below his. It can be a bit tricky to understand at first, but practice looking at the different thread methods.

You might notice that DarthVader31 is chatting with two posters. You will notice that their posts are under DarthVader31 post. It makes it much easier to follow coversations. Some people are stubborn and stick with Flat. I'm a flat myself, but sometimes I will use the Nest method.

Experiment and see which one you like the best.

If you still need assistance, please post on the IMDB Help Board.

ez guide solved ***SOLVED***

If someone answers your question, reply with a Thank You post.

Goto your original post and add the word (***SOLVED***) at the end, of the 'subject line'.

Don't erase your question, that is impolite. Don't worry about your thread cluttering up the board. It will gradualy be pushed to the bottom.

I don't know how to edit ***SOLVED***. How do you do it?

Go to the thread that you got your question answered. Congratulations, your question has been solved. You will see an edit button, with a green pencil icon. That is the one we want, to press.

Press it.

Scroll down a little bit.

Do you see your subject line? Good. Add ***SOLVED*** to the end of your sub line. (NOTE if it wont fit, you are going to have to erase part of your subject line.0

Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see two button. Press the one that says Apply Edit.

Don't forget to find the poster who solved it. Click on their reply button and post a quick Thank You. (If you want, you can tack their name to the ***SOLVED***.)

It should look something like this:

1970s movie with 25 foot shark ***SOLVED*** by MarkTwain31

You don't have to add a posters name, but it is a nice thing to do.

If you have any difficulties, please ask for help on the Help Board.
(Help Board) http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/

ez guide Descriptive Subject Line and more replies

How do I get more responses?

Write a descriptive subject line.

Don't write "help me" or "please help".

Whenever I see "HELP ME", I think of: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0qP81havHnE. Don't be that poster. lol

Make it understandable, at a glance.

If you are looking for a sci-fi movie. Mention "sci-fi movie question", be obvious about it.

If your movie has a guy with two heads and a chainsaw, mention it.

"Two headed killer with chainsaw, what movie?"

Don't ever type- "please read my question".

IN THE BODY TEXT.

Don't say you saw a movie when you were young.
Say something like this. In 1995, I was 5 years old. The movie was black in white. The movie felt like it was from the 1960s. Mention what country you were in, when you viewed it. Was it a tv movie? Was it a low budget movie? Mention all the details that you can think of. A little detail, might trigger a posters recollection. (NOTE you can only edit a post 10 times, before it locks up.)

Don't ruin my vision, don't TYPE IN ALL CAPS. It is hard on the eyes and will make posters avoid your query. Don't shout, in all caps. It is quite rude.

If you don't get your movie solved, then edit into the subject line this word: (UNSOLVED). Many posters will see a thread with plenty of posts on it. They will assume that it has been solved. If they see (UNSOLVED) they know at a glance, that the posts is still at play.

If you think of any more details, add them to your original post. That will be the very first post your made. Don't repost your question. Edit this into your subject line: (added more information)

Posters will be able to tell at a glance, that you have added some information.

If you haven't got a nibble in a while, BUMP it. (If you don't how to BUMP, click on this link- http://tinyurl.com/yt94t2)

Good luck and I hope you get you question solved.

If you get a correct response, please edit ***SOLVED*** into your subject line. (The very top post has the subject line, you want to edit. You want to edit ***SOLVED*** into that one.)

It should look something like this.
1970s movie with 25 foot shark ***SOLVED*** .

Create a new post and thank whomever solved it.

Please dont' delete your orignal post. Other posters are curious as to the question. When you delete your top post, it doesn't delete the entire thread. It only makes a mess. You have the solution, but not the problem. If you do this, you run the risk of posters putting you on their "ignore list".

If you need additional help; please ask on the IMDB Help Board.

ez guide Bump bump bumpity boo

How to properly BUMP up, a post,

I've got posters complaining, that I'm reposting my question. How do I do this BUMP thingy?

It is very easy, to do. Reply to you own post. You will see a yellow button that says reply. Press it. You will notice a 'subject line' and the 'body'.

Write BUMP, in the 'subject line'; every poster will know that you are BUMPing your post.

You should type BUMP (nm). The nm means "no message". The body will not contain any additional information. Posters will know at a glance, that the body is empty. Posters will appreciate it.

The reason for putting BUMP in the subject line, is to help as many posters as possible. Many posters like to scan a post (they look at the subject line). If you put BUMP in the body, than you are going to make posters a tad angry. These posters are less likely to help you, later on. Be polite and put BUMP in the subject line. Nobody likes to open up a post and find out, that it doesn't contain any information.

I wouldn't BUMP more than once an hour. If you keep reposting, you run the risk of being 'ignored'. (BUMP once every 8 hours and you will get the world. Don't forget we have 24 time zones. lol)

IMDB wont let me BUMP. I'm confused. Help me, won't you?
You need to have something in the body.
Type (nm) or whatever, it will work. -----(nm) means "no message"

Chances are you have multiple posts, on the I Need to Know Board. You will want to delete them all, except for a single post (the one with the most responses, keep that post!!!).

Wikipedia BUMP- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bump_%28Internet%29

If you are still confused about BUMPing, please post your question on the IMDB Help Board.

ez guide clicky goodness and smiley faces

I can't make CLICKY LINKS or SMILEYS.

Try this link. It should explain everything. http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup

UH OH- I can't figure it out.

No problem. Read on and learn how to make clickys and Smileys.

How do you make a link, into a clicky link?

url the stuff in the middle /url

the stuff in the middle

http://imdb.com

you create http://imdb.com/

Goto http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup to learn to make clickable urls and smileys. You can learn it, in a minute or less. (when making clicky URLs, it is best to PREVIEW them , before you post. Few things are sadder, than a bad link. Preview your post, and try the link out. If it works, post it. If not, you have a typo.) (Don't forget to use your PREVIEW button. It is located below your text box.)

Jeez, I'm going to forget that URL. How do I find that page again? Click on your name and you can look at your Personal Options. Take a look at "markup enabled" . Now you will always be able to find the URL. Or the EZ method. Click on some posters "reply button" and you will see markup enabled". Also you can on the "my profile" link and see markup enabled located in your bio. (markup enabled link http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup)

OH JEEZ!!! I still dont understand! Why are my links, not working?

Hmmmmmmmmm. Evidently you made a mistake or two.

Here are some popular mistakes.

1-- You have to use BRACKETS. [bracket]. You probably used parenthesis. You can't use (Parenthesis).

I didn't do that, what else could it be?

2-- / is a slash. That key is located, below the question mark. That is the proper key to use. Use the /slash/. I'm thinking that you accidentally used the "back slash" \\\\\. That is the wrong key. Don't use that key.

I didn't do that, what else could it be?

3-- Do you put the /slash/ in the right location?

Note that the slash should be located, in the second bracket.

____________________/_________
url the stuff in the middle /url

_____________________/_________
the stuff in the middle

__________________/_________
http://imdb.com

you create http://imdb.com/

It still wont' work. I have looked at the markup enabled page. It just doesn't make sense. What am I doing wrong? I'm starting to get frustrated.

4-- You are making an error somewhere. We just have to find out where!

Try this.

http://imdb.com

I want you to copy and paste, the above link. Copy and paste, the whole dang thing. I want you to go to a board and pretend to reply to a post. I don't want you to reply to the post. Just press the reply button. Then later, we will hit the Preview Button.

Copy and paste the link (the whole thing. Don't forget you need the url brackets.)

OK. We should have transferred the link to your reply ( in the Body text).

Everything is good.

Now this is important, don't post it. You don't want to post it or send it. You want to practice. Press the Preview Button. Don't worry about making mistakes. Nobody can see what you are doing. You can practice for as long as you want. An extra bonus, is that posting quotas will not apply to learning. Doesn't hurt either, that you aren't spamming the Boards with your homework. lol

Now that you have hit the Preview Button, you can see a clicky link. Behold the wonder, that you have created. Ok that is long enough.

Hit the back button, on your browser. You should see the link with the urls, on both sides. (NOTE- sometimes IMDB will glitch up. If IMDB is glitching up, than when you hit the back button, the Body text will be empty. Not a problem. Just copy and paste again.)

I want you to copy the link, exactly as above. I don't want you to change anything. I want a perfect copy. Hit the Preview Button. Aha, you have two clicky links. I told you, it would work. Why did you doubt me? Well don't worry, all is forgiven.

The links worked. Now lets do the link you wanted. Hit the back button and go back a page. I want you to carefully delete the imdb link. Don't erase the urls or the [brackets].

The imdb link should be gone now.

You like to shop at Amazon.com, that's cool. Let's try putting in http://www.amazon.com/

Copy and paste. You know the drill. See it worked.

Oh no it didn't. In that case you must have accidentally erased something. Try again.

Oh that worked. Thanks.

As long as you are here. Go to your 2 favorite web sites. Copy and paste them into the urls brackets. I hoped it worked, like a charm.

I haven't lost anybody yet, but it is possible that you still can't figure out the clicky system. I have only one thing left to say. You need help from a higher source. Please click on this link http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/threads/ and ask at the IMDB Help Board. Be patient, it can take minutes or hours for someone to reply.

(NOTE to find your old post, click on your name or "my profile" link and look at your bio. It would probably be a good idea to set your IMDb account, to send you an IMDB email.) (click on http://tinyurl.com/2xc8rp, to learn to how receive IMDB emails.)

How to make Smileys. Click on your markup enabled page. It will explain everything. http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup

My Smileys won't work. How come?

You must have made a simple error.

Try doing this. Goto the markup enabled page. Look at the different Smileys. Look below the Smiley faces and you see things like [newbie], [confused], [smile], [sad] and countless others.

Go to any Board and hit someones reply button. No we aren't going to respond to them. We are just going to practice. Copy and paste one of the Smiley commands. Beneath it, try and copy it exactly. Hit the Preview Button. Aha, you now have 2 somethings. That is two more than you had before.

Remember practice makes perfect. Just remember one thing, don't hit the Post Button.

Good luck with your practice.

UH OH- My Smileys just wont work.

Hmmmmmmm. I'm guessing that IMDB is glitching up and you are not at fault. You should ask on the Help Board. They will be able to tell you if IMDB is glitching up. And if I didn't help you with your Smileys, they surely will.

synopsis of movies- four word review- spoilers

http://www.themoviespoiler.com/index.html
The Movie Spoiler (Spoilers)

--------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.ruinedendings.com/
Ruined Endings - careful what you read!
This started out as the surprise endings of a few films, until we realised that a good collection of movie spoilers and plot summaries is quite hard to come by. As such, the remit of this site's expanded - just endings are still listed if that's all you want, but there's also the option to list (and submit) a full plot summary for films. Not just the kind of summary you get on the back of DVD boxes, or a review, but a full(ish) account of all the main plot points.

--------------------------------------------------------

http://www.fwfr.com/

What is this?
Top reviewers

The fwfr is a film review site like no other- an ever expanding collection of extremely brief film reviews and summaries.
Submissions are welcomed from anyone- the only condition being no more than four words may be used.
